"People's Limbo" is a new series of interactive, experiential activities that take place in Cao Fei's RMB City. It explores the feelings of despair and denial that accompany financial crises, but also the subsequent progress toward rebirth, self-reliance, and freedom.

RMB City is pleased to announce a special project by acclaimed Chinese writer Mian Mian entitled "Love Letter to an Avatar." From now until December 15th, anyone in Second Life can commission an original love letter from Mian Mian— all she needs is a photo of the recipient (in Second Life), and a payment (amount to be chosen by the buyer). However, the recipient of the love letter must be a stranger to Mian Mian in real life...

 “NO LAB in RMB City” is a new collaboration between Cao Fei (SL: China Tracy) and MAP OFFICE created for Prospect.1 New Orleans, the largest biennial of international contemporary art ever organized in the United States. A special section of Cao Fei’s RMB City, a virtual art community under construction in Second Life, has been transformed into a stark, surreal vision of New Orleans. Based on MAP OFFICE’s research and drawings about post-Katrina New Orleans, the NO LAB parcel of land is a similar investigation into the landscape (physical, cultural, historic) of this unique city.

During the Yokohama Triennale, RMB City will be used to realize the dream projects of the general public. In "Play With Your Triennale", anyone and everyone is invited to submit an artistic project, and selected entries will be realized in the People's Worksite during the Triennale period, along with a series of special events.
In keeping with the border-crossing spirit of RMB City, anyone worldwide can become an artist in the Triennale by contributing ideas, and also audiences anywhere can visit this virtual slice of the exhibition at any time.

Though the full city is still under construction (opening in October 2008), avatars may also visit the Preview Center to learn more about the city.
